What’s Holding You Back?

My boss bought us a grill for our wedding.  We’re celebrating our second anniversary on the 17th, so I felt it was time to put it to some use.  Three days ago I went into our basement and pulled everything out that I needed. After washing a spider web and its eight-legged inhabitant off the grill and down our shower drain, I went outside and began my adventure.

I’m nearly 27 and this was the first time I grilled in my life.  The main reason I’ve never grilled and the main reason our wedding present sat in the basement for two years is that I didn’t think I could do it right. However, as you can see from the picture above my burgers were tasty.  As I sat on a fold up fishing chair in my back yard with Brittany sipping coffee and waiting for the meat to finish, I thought about how I had robed myself by living countless years without grilling.  It was really awesome!  I’m convinced that all of our meals should be grilled from here on out. I’m talking chicken, fish, pork … even spaghetti.  I don’t care what it is I just want to grill it!

What have you been scared to do that is making you miss out on God’s blessings?  Is your youth ministry filled with stuff that you refuse to dive into because you don’t want to mess up?  Maybe your ministry at church is going great.  How about your ministry at home?  Don’t let fear keep you from the place God is trying to lead things.

Those burgers tasted like I bought them at a five star resort.  It wasn’t because I cooked them any special way.  They were most likely just a normal batch of burgers.  But I loved how they tasted because I made them and I didn’t think I could.  Seeing that I accomplished that goal made our meal so much more rewarding.   God wants your youth ministry, and your ministry to your friends and family to be just as fulfilling.  So quit letting fear hold you back from accomplishing His plans.

Pull out the grill and wash some spiders down the drain.
